“showcases Moen’s strength as a songwriter, singer, and band leader.”
Purple Flowers
dir by Austin Vessley
I wrote this after one of my first nights out in Chicago. Things were just opening back up, and there was a show at the Rainbo. I walked in and was instantly overwhelmed - everyone was, respectfully, beautiful. I got too nervous to talk to anyone and left.
Later that night, I was wandering around my neighborhood, tapping on fences, and the lyrics started coming to me. I rushed home and wrote most of it in one go.
Emily Neale, who stars in the video, said the song feels like someone watching others connect and wanting to be part of it. That really resonated. When I moved here, I saw people forming real connections and craved that too. Eventually, I found it - by showing up, saying hi, and by putting myself out there.
I’d always wanted to write something fun and upbeat. Turns out it came easier than saying hey to someone at a bar.
